Most people are using Reiki symbols completely the wrong way
If you’ve been taught to use Reiki symbols as tools for healing, protection, or sending energy… You’ve been pointed in the wrong direction. That’s the blunt reality. Because the symbols were never designed to be used as external tools to “do things.”
They’re meditation devices.
They exist to stabilise your attention. To deepen your awareness. To train your mind.
That’s their function.
Here’s what that looks like in practice… Most people are shown how to draw a symbol, visualise it, and then apply it to a situation: Fix this. Heal that. Send something somewhere.
The attention is always outward and that outward focus is why, generally, the practice of Reiki has turned into such a vacuous waste of time. It takes courage to focus inwards. Not a quality the Reiki community is known for.
When the symbols are used properly, the direction flips completely. Instead of projecting outward, you hold the symbol as an object of focus.
You stay with it. You stabilise attention on it. You let it anchor your awareness. And in doing that, something very different starts to happen…
The mind settles.
Clarity increases.
Awareness deepens.
And energetically, things shift and change without you having to ‘do’ anything. That’s the work. Not pushing energy around. Not trying to produce effects; developing awareness, because that’s where the real depth in Reiki begins.
The problem is, once symbols get reduced to tools, the whole system collapses into technique. “Doing” instead of developing awareness and allowing coherence to emerge naturally. You can’t force coherence by pushing outwards. It’s always an internal thing.
When the practise is focused outwards it loses its precision, its structure, and ultimately its power.
If you’ve only ever approached the symbols as something that produce results… There’s a whole layer of practice you haven’t touched yet.
I’ve written a new article going more deeply into this topic, and you can find it here:
If you’ve ever felt like something about how symbols are taught doesn’t quite add up… this will clear it up. This piece strips away all the added layers, interpretations, and guesswork that have built up around the symbols over time.
It puts them back into the structure they actually belong in, so you can see how they fit into the system as a whole, rather than as isolated techniques.
That shift alone changes how you practise.
A New Training Is Coming (Limited Beta Programme)
Over the next month or so, I’m going to be developing a short, focused training based on an energetic empowerment process I’ve been using over the past months with some very powerful results. I’ve told you about it in past newsletters.
This work is centred around:
Breaking the neurological patterns behind looping thoughts
Interrupting the triggers that lead to flashbacks
Creating real internal shifts in how the mind responds
This has already had a massive impact for people dealing with intense internal patterns and trauma.
Soon, I’m going to be opening this up to a small, beta training group.
Here’s what’s important:
This is not open to everyone.
Minimum requirements:
You must have experience of working with energetic empowerments
Reiki attunements are acceptable as a baseline (just…)
Ideally, you will also have experience with Buddho empowerments or similar esoteric Buddhist energy work
And to be absolutely clear:
This is not open to general Reiki practitioners working at a treatment level. Reiki treatments alone do not qualify for this type of training.
This process requires a level of internal training and structure that goes beyond standard Reiki practice. It’s my intention in fact to keep this practice entirely out of the hands of the Reiki community.
I’m looking for people who:
Understand disciplined practice
Want to go deeper
Are ready to work with this at a serious level
This will be:
A small group
A first-run beta programme
Taught in the next couple of months
If this speaks to you, reach out and let me know you’re interested. Further details to come in due course.
Here’s what’s coming up over the next three weeks:
Reiki Level 2 - 8th–9th May: deepen your engagement with Reiki both as your own personal spiritual development practice and if you wish, as a qualified Reiki practitioner.
Reiki Level 3A - 15th–16th May: start the journey into serious energy work in this first part of the Reiki teacher’s training. This is great for those who just want to deepen their own practice and for those who want to ultimately go on to become Reiki teachers themselves.
Buddho 2 - 22nd–23rd May: now we’re getting serious. This class builds on Buddho level 1 and the whole system expands into a deep practice that will transform your life. Dive into Buddho and go beyond ‘energy healing’.
Each of these trainings is designed to deepen your practice in a structured, grounded way. If you’re ready to move forward with your training, now’s a great time to step in.

“I had a really positive experience with (The Abundant Self course) , as well as other courses I’ve taken with Steve. One of the things I appreciate most about his work is the consistency and stability he brings as a teacher. His presence is always grounded and reliable, which creates a safe space where students can truly open up and express whatever they need-freely and without judgment.
Across the different courses, Steve has supported me in many ways and remained deeply attentive to my personal process. He explores and adapts methods thoughtfully, always aiming to support real advancement rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach. I consistently felt seen, heard, and guided with care.
I highly recommend him as a teacher for his deep knowledge, steady presence, and ability to hold space while guiding meaningful inner work. Because of the consistency and quality of his teaching, I would genuinely recommend any course he provides to anyone looking for authentic, supportive, and lasting personal growth.”
All the best,
Steve
