A few years ago I was giving a public talk about Reiki in 6th of October City in Cairo.
During the talk, a woman wearing a hijab raised her hand and asked a question that I’ve heard many times since.
“Does Reiki involve spirit guides?” You could see the concern behind the question.
From her perspective as a Muslim, the issue wasn’t philosophical curiosity. If Reiki involved unseen beings, then the question immediately became what kind of beings?
In Islamic theology, unseen beings are often understood as djinn: real entities with their own will and intentions. For someone from that background, the idea that a healing practice might involve interaction with unseen beings raises very serious concerns.
So I explained that traditional Reiki doesn’t involve spirit guides at all.
Those ideas appeared later as Reiki travelled through the West and became mixed with New Age beliefs. But in the system as originally taught in Japan, Reiki training focused on:
disciplined practice
meditation
ethical principles
hands-on treatment
No angels. No guides. No ascended masters. No external entities of any kind.
When she heard that, the woman visibly relaxed. And it reminded me how important it is to strip Reiki back to its foundations, rather than letting misconceptions define it and disenfranchise people that might otherwise gain considerable benefit from it.
I’ve written a new blog article covering these ideas here: Does Reiki Involve Spirit Guides or External Entities?
(If you prefer watching instead of reading, there’s also a video version embedded in the article.)
Something Interesting Happening in My Work
Over the past few months I’ve been experimenting with something I call energetic empowerment.
The results have been genuinely remarkable. Here are a two examples from recent clients:
• One client has reported the complete cessation of all symptoms of CPTSD following the empowerment work.
• Another client reported the complete cessation of catastrophic looping thoughts that had been present for years due to early neglect and abandonment issues.
This is still early exploration, so I’m continuing to test the process with new clients.
If you feel you may have a psychological or trauma-related issue and you’d like to explore whether this work could help, I’m currently offering sessions in exchange for a video testimonial if the results are positive. If that feels relevant for you, send me a message on WhatsApp (+4478100 16959) and we can talk about whether it might be appropriate.
Upcoming Classes
If you’ve been thinking about training in Reiki or continuing your journey, here are the next upcoming workshops:

Buddho EnerSense Level 2: 20–21 March - For those continuing the Buddho path, Level 2 deepens your meditation practice and expands your understanding of the subtle energy system.
Reiki Level 3A (Master Practitioner): 10–11 April - This level takes you deeper into the spiritual and philosophical aspects of Reiki practice and for those who want to go on to teach, this is your first step.

A New Retreat I’m Exploring
I’m currently exploring the development of a 3–5 day retreat experience that builds on the work we do in the Abundant Self programme.
The working title is: Exploring Consciousness Through Creativity and Awareness
The idea is to bring together several strands of my work:
meditation
Energy based practices
awareness practices
creativity as a pathway into deeper consciousness
This is still in the early design phase, but I’m very excited about what it could become.
More details soon.

“Taking RJKD and Buddho courses with Steve was the best decision I have made with my Reiki journey. I had studied the system of Reiki before, but I was left feeling that I was missing a lot of information and with many unanswered questions.
Steve not only answered them all, but he also simplified everything and brought clarity, joy and confidence to each class.
I am honoured to call myself his student and forever grateful for such an enlightening experience.”
If you’d like to explore Reiki training, energetic empowerment, or simply ask a question about anything in this newsletter, feel free to reach out.
I’m always happy to talk.
