Hi everyone,
I hope you're having a good week.
Firstly, a quick update. I've made an adjustment to the dates for the next iteration of The Abundant Self. I wanted to create a little more breathing space so everyone who is interested has plenty of time to hear about it, ask questions and decide whether it's the right step for them.
Updated Dates
Free Live The Abundant Self Webinar
Tuesday 8 September – 6.45pm (BST)
The Abundant Self Programme Begins
Wednesday 23 September, again, 6.45pm (BST), every week
For Buddho practitioners and especially Reiki teachers, there will also be an Advanced Empowerment Training on Saturday 19 September. I’ve talked about this in a previous newsletter but will be coming back to it in the coming weeks. In the mean time you can find out more if you’re curious here: Advanced Bespoke Empowerment Training.
Why My Work Is Changing
Some of you may have noticed that over the past year I've been writing and talking less about Reiki and Buddho and much more about The Abundant Self.
For almost thirty years I've been teaching Reiki across continents and written three books on the subject, all with an emphasis on your own personal spiritual development. It often saddens me that so many have no real interest in it other than as a simple energy healing method, even though it’s an amazing tool in that context.
Buddho, which can also be used a a healing method, takes you much deeper on that journey of personal self-discovery through the cultivation of awareness and compassion.
One thing I’ve noticed however, is that even after years of practicing Reiki and/or Buddho, most people still end up right back in the same old mess they were in before they took that training. Why? Because neither of those methods address the root cause of the problem: the patterns that keep repeating in the background of our lives endlessly. Reiki and Buddho might give you awareness of those patterns, but they have no ability to fix them.
So, the same relationships, the same fears, the same habits and the same limitations despite everything we've learned, just keep coming back.
That's why I created The Abundant Self.
It’s not designed to replace Reiki or Buddho, and neither of those disciplines are required to enter the TAS path, though both infused the foundations of it.
The Abundant Self combines deep awareness training with psychology, neuroscience, and esoteric practices drawn from Vajrayana and Shingon Buddhism as well as Daoism. Central to the system is a unique empowerment process that when used repeatedly, brings the practitioner into a state of coherence, over and over again, helping to reveal and dismantle the underlying patterns that hold you stuck.
Increasingly, TAS is where my passion lies because it is more all-encompassing, much more creatively fluid and can delve deeper than either Reiki or Buddho. Already, I’ve seen more profound changes in the first few students on the TAS programme in a few months than I’ve seen in almost 30 years of teaching Reiki.
So, my future direction is very much in involved with the development of TAS. To make that happen, Reiki and Buddho (particularly Reiki) will be diminished.

The Pattern Beneath the Pattern
So, what about those patterns I was just talking about? Most of us recognise the obvious one’s in our lives. We procrastinate, overthink, struggle to say no, seek approval or react in ways we've promised ourselves we wouldn't. Those behaviours are easy to see, but they're usually only the visible expression of something much deeper.
The real question isn't simply, "How do I stop doing this?" It's, "Why does this keep happening, even when I know what I'm doing?"
Many of the habits and reactions that frustrate us today began as intelligent adaptations. At some point they helped us cope or avoid conflict, gain approval or deal with situations that felt overwhelming. The difficulty is that they often continue long after the original circumstances have changed. We keep trying to change the behaviour when it's the deeper process creating the behaviour that really needs our attention.
That’s what The Abundant Self is all about and why I’ve explored the idea in more detail in my latest Knowledge Centre article here:
If you've ever found yourself asking why the same situations seem to keep appearing despite your best efforts to change, I think you'll find it an interesting read. You can find it here:
What One TAS Participant Said
I’ve also shared a short video from Elizabeth talking about her experience of The Abundant Self here:
She describes how the programme changed the way she reacts, helped her step back from old patterns, and supported a growing sense of courage, especially after the empowerment.
“The TAS program changed my perspective on so many things. It changed the way I react - instead of automatically reacting in the same toxic patterns that I used to, I can now take a step back, breathe and be more mindful before taking my next step.
It changed how certain thoughts or situations used to give me fear, but now I feel a sense of courage building up (especially noticeable after the empowerment).”
