Why Reiki Training Prices Vary So Widely (And How to Choose What’s Right for You)

Understanding cost, lineage, depth and long-term value in modern Reiki training

Illustration of the three tiers of possible Reiki training

Over the years, I’ve had the same question come up again and again:

“Why does Reiki training cost anything from £20 online to several thousand pounds in person?”

It’s a fair question. On the surface, it can look confusing or even arbitrary. After all, Reiki is Reiki, right?

The short answer is this: you’re not paying for Reiki. You’re paying for the depth, structure, lineage and level of transformation the training is designed to support.

That distinction matters.

Why price differences exist

Some Reiki courses are designed to be accessible introductions. They prioritise ease, speed and low commitment. These can be useful if someone is simply curious and wants a basic overview.

Other trainings are designed as long-term developmental paths. They include extensive teaching, direct transmission, personal mentoring, integration practices and an ongoing relationship with the lineage itself.

I’ve worked with many people who arrived having already completed very low-cost training elsewhere. Often, they realised they still didn’t truly understand how to work with energy, how to hold themselves as a practitioner, or how to integrate Reiki into their lives in a grounded way.

That doesn’t make those courses “wrong”. It simply means they were built for a different purpose.

What you’re really choosing

When you choose Reiki training, you’re choosing more than content. You’re choosing:

  • the energetic quality of the lineage

  • the depth of transmission

  • the level of personal support

  • the structure that shapes how you grow over time

Higher-investment training reflects the time, care and responsibility involved in holding that space properly.

That’s why costs vary so widely.

If you’re deciding where to train, the most useful question isn’t “How much does it cost?” but “What kind of journey am I actually looking for?”

A deeper look

I’ve written a full article that explores this in more detail, including the different tiers of Reiki training, what each is designed to offer, and how to make a choice that genuinely fits where you are.
