You think you know what the world looks like. You don’t.

The same goes for your town, your home, the people you share your life with. You only think you know what all these things and these people look like, but you don’t. And that’s a fact.

If I put a simple object in front of you and asked you to draw it exactly as it appears, most people couldn’t do it. Not because they lack skill, but because they’re not seeing what’s actually there right in front of them.

They’re seeing what they think is there.

That’s because the brain labels everything. Cup, chair, cloud, police officer, postman, waitress, chocolate cake. The moment the label is applied, perception collapses into pattern identification, and the mind fills in the rest. It defaults to a standard schema that it made up.

Take something as simple as a piece of chocolate.

The eye only sees a brown shape. That’s all. It’s the mind that steps in and says, “Ah, chocolate. That tastes good. I want some.” What follows is desire, attachment; a whole chain of reactions based on past experience. If you get the chocolate, you might feel satisfied. If someone else eats the last piece before you do, jealousy might arise.

Nothing about the chocolate has changed. The mind has added everything on top of it: what the thing is and all associated emotional triggers that arise because of it.

This is happening constantly. Everything gets categorised and tagged. Good, bad, enjoyable, annoying, threatening. You’re not just seeing the world, you’re interpreting it, shaping it, reacting to it, mostly without realising it’s happening.

So what you’re left with isn’t direct perception. It’s a constructed version of reality based on what you bring to it. That’s the default setting almost no one questions.

I’ve broken all of this down in my latest Knowledge Centre article where I go deeper into how perception actually works:

The difference with artists isn’t talent. It’s that they interrupt the process that everyone else is unconscious of. Instead of relying on recognition, they hold attention on what’s actually present. Shapes, angles, relationships, light, proportion. No shortcuts.

The consequence is that reality manifests in front of them and creative output improves because perception becomes more accurate.

And once you see this clearly, it stops being about drawing. You start to recognise the same process in how you interpret people, situations, and even your own thoughts. You’re doing this every moment you’re awake, all day, every day; interpreting the world, never seeing the real world.

Why this matters for what I’m building

This links directly into something I’m developing right now.

I’m working on a new series of audio recordings. Guided meditations and visualisations focused on things like anxiety, depression, addressing sleep issues and creating a stronger sense of abundance.

Each of these will have an empowerment track embedded underneath the audio.

The response so far has been very off the charts astonishing!

People using these recordings are reporting a noticeable and sometimes massive shifts. More calm, less anxiety, fewer intrusive thoughts, and a reduced reaction to things that would normally trigger them. These recordings are moving people back into a state of coherence rapidly.

What’s even more interesting is that some people are experiencing these effects without actively listening. They’ve simply been in the same space while the recording was playing, and they’re still noticing huge benefits.

That’s not what you expect or get from a standard meditation or visualisation recording.

So there’s clearly something happening here that’s worth exploring further.

I’ll be releasing more of these over the coming weeks. I haven’t finalised pricing yet, but I’m excited about where this is going because the impact is already clear.

Join the Abundant Mind community

If you want to be closer to this work, come and join the Abundant Mind Facebook group. I’m going to be running a special offer on the first batch of these recordings just into this group.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing:

  • Simple exercises to train perception and attention

  • Early access to some of these audio recordings

  • Deeper conversations around meditation, Reiki, and Buddho

I’ll keep it focused. One or two posts a week, nothing excessive, just practical material you can use.

And a heads up, I’m starting to get disenchanted with running all of my trainings online, so in the near future expect some live, face to face work again – starting with The Abundant Self retreat. Details soon.

Upcoming Classes

  • Buddho Level 1 | 1st–2nd May

  • Reiki Level 2 | 8th–9th May

  • Reiki Level 3A | 15th–16th May
